THIS is a site dedicated to enabling your Yamaha PSR-9000, 9000 Pro, Tyros, or Tyros 2, to make MORE BEAUTIFUL music than you ever dreamed possible.![]()
![]()
)
The above four "Arranger" keyboards are, so far, the very best Yamaha has ever made in terms of musical creativity and flexibility. Even the so-called "professional" keyboards can't even begin to match them in terms of quickly creating and recording a new and highly realistic-sounding Song Arrangement.
But some people are totally amazing. After paying a hefty price for one of these magnificent keyboards, they WILL DO NOTHING WHATSOEVER to enhance its sound quality!
Perhaps they don't know that the internet has available SEVERAL THOUSAND free Accompaniment Styles, as opposed to the 300 or so factory styles in their keyboard.
And perhaps they don't know that all those neat features (Reverb, Echo, Chorus, Harmony, Portamento, Sustain, Sound Creator, Compressor, EQ, Tremelo, Trill, etc. etc.) were inserted by Yamaha to improve the sound of their music.
And saddest of all, perhaps they don't know about Registrations.
(I've seen it happen dozens of times. You mention "Registrations" to them, and their eyes quickly glaze over -- the word sounds meaningless.)
So... the first thing we need to do is clarify what a "Registration" is!
(If you don't want it clarified, but just want to know "What the hell good is it?" CLICK HERE
It's really simple when you think about it. When playing a musical keyboard, you need to use certain "settings" to get the sound you want. A REGISTRATION IS NOTHING MORE THAN A HANDY FILE CONTAINING THOSE SETTINGS, all in place and ready to use.
Thus, if you need a Guitar and a Clarinet both playing together, about 4 feet apart -- you set them up in your File that way.
And if you need a softly wailing Harmonica in the background, you put that in your File also, along with some Reverb.
And every time you need a Guitar, Clarinet, and Harmonica playing together -- you return to that file.
Simple as that.
Or it can be more complex. Maybe you want the Harmonica and Clarinet playing together, but with the Guitar making chords whenever you play "harder" on the keys.
Or maybe you want that guitar to "strum" with rapidly repeating notes, while the Harmonica and Clarinet play together.
Or maybe you want the Harmonica and Clarinet not only playing together, but also HARMONIZING (i.e., when the Harmonica is playing a "C," the Clarinet is playing an "F" in perfect harmony.)
The file can be as complex as you want it. You can fill it with any of hundreds of Effects, you can brighten or tone down the instruments by using EQ, you can create your own "User Voices" that behave and/or sound differently from the normal ones, you can even make the notes sound "different" or appear out of nowhere by playing a little harder or softer.
But somebody has to set all these things up first. And when you've got everything set up -- it's called a Registration.
Registrations don't always sound "terrific." In fact, if they're not done correctly, they can sound terrible!
The trick is in learning how to make them sound GOOD. It requires practice and experience. (You could actually think of it as an Art Form.)
SOME people confuse Styles with Registrations. Please try not to make this mistake -- there is a BIG difference here.
Simply stated, a "Style" is the music playing in the Background AUTOMATICALLY. And a Style CAN be stored in a Registration.
But a Registration can store MUCH MORE than "just" a Style. While that Ballad or Country or Rock music is pouring forth in the background from the Style -- you'll need some instruments in the foreground to play the Melody -- that is, the Song Itself.
A Registration holds ALL OF THESE, and much more, ready for you at a moment's notice. And you can have hundreds of different Registrations, with a different style stored in each.
![]()
Anyway, I somehow got fascinated with making Registrations. Almost every kind you could imagine. And as I have mentioned elsewhere, I've been giving out these Registrations for nearly three years now.
![]()
Free. At no cost whatsoever. And of course, all they cost me is my time.
![]()

Sure, I didn't charge anything for the more than 380 Registrations, but maybe I should have. They were made for just the PSR-9000 and the 9000 Pro, but according to several who have tried, nearly two-thirds of the 380 even work in their new
Tyros! * * * ![]()

Most of you already know about Registrations. If you're not using them, at least you've seen them on your Yamaha (and other) keyboards. Do you like playing genuinely beautiful music? Perhaps you don't know it yet, but good REGISTRATIONS ARE YOUR VERY BEST TOOL when it comes to coaxing really sweet sounds out of your keyboard.
Why? Because a Registration is nothing more than a "frozen" setup in which Voices, Effects, Harmony, EQ, Compression, Touch Sensitivity, Panning, Reverb, Chorus, and many other features are WORKING TOGETHER to produce a more pleasing and effective sound... and a good Registration setup can be very beautiful to listen to. Unfortunately, most of us are not Programmers, and either don't want to or don't have the time to learn how to be one.
That's where I come in.
Having had several years of experience in programming both computers, keyboards, synthesizers, and sound modules, I got ahold of a PSR-9000
and decided to set up a few fancy programs (Registrations) and make the keyboard REALLY show off its potential.
Just good clean fun, I told myself. But somehow, I went completely bonkers and didn't stop until I had created more than 380 Registrations, each different, and also a few "tweaked" Styles. (A "tweaked" Style is one from
the Styles area of the keyboard that is set up with several Variations of the
basic Styles Voices... so that each variation has DIFFERENT Voices, Panning, Reverb, Velocity, EQ, or whatever else, in place of the originals.)
As it turned out, I was so enthralled by these beautiful sounds the 9000 had enabled me to create, that I felt it would be rather selfish to just keep them to myself. So... I decided to give them away.
I didn't know what I was getting into.

![]()
Sure, it can happen. And of the more than 1200 persons who have so far requested that I send the Registrations, only about 8 percent wrote back afterward to let me know they'd been received. And... since email DOES often fail, I never knew (a) if the Registrations were never received, (b) if they were received but didn't download properly due to inexperience, poor software, not following directions, or some other reason; (c) if they were received but were used incorrectly,* or (d) if there are still people out there waiting for me to Send Their Registrations, who are too bashful to inquire WHY THEY NEVER ARRIVED.
(One gent in Tacoma, Washington wrote me THREE TIMES, asking if I would send the Registrations. I sent them EACH TIME. He never did write back, so I don't know if he's received them. For all I know, he may still be waiting.) And you wonder why I doubt the reliability of email?
Fortunately, most of the 8 percent who did write back were quite pleased, and a few even wrote Rave Reviews -- which was encouraging.
And so, it is to those who were kind enough to write back, that this page is dedicated. Its purpose? To let ALL PSR-9000 and 9000 Pro owners know that
the Registrations are STILL AVAILABLE, and if somehow you were missed the first time around, I feel terrible about it but we can try again.
*(Registrations only work well if both the Accompaniment and the Registration "Freeze" buttons are turned ON; also, I only worked on the Voices... YOU need to select the Style you want. Please don't be one of those who expect me to do EVERYTHING. If I had attached a specific Style to each Registration, I would be hearing "WHY did you use that crummy style?" LOL.)
(I just got this note in the mail. Here it is, word for word):
"Hi Dave,
I just received your e-mail with the attachments, but for some reason I am unable to open the attachments. My e-mail-Outlook Express will not recognize attachments. Is there any other way I may receive them?
Thanks for your help."
In cases like this, or in other cases where your email program DELETES attachments, I have another way of getting the Registrations to you, so don't despair -- just write me about the problem.
During the nearly three years that I have been sending out Free Registrations, I have discovered many problems in the email itself. AOL, for example, absolutely refuses to receive any mail that contains a link to this particular website: http://i.1asphost.com/tyros22/pipelinerr2/Mini-Testimonials.htmlJust try putting that into an email and mailing it to one of your AOL friends. Let me know if you succeed.
There are many problems today that didn't even exist two years ago. Have you ever sent a photo or other attachment to a friend, and then learned that they "never got it?" Of course later we learn that it was found in their "BULK MAIL" box, if at all. The software that protects us from spam and viruses also tosses some of our friends' messages into the garbage heap.

Hey Dave,
I received the files from you for the PSR9000 and installed them.
I have played through many of them and they are really great. It is
like getting a new keyboard for FREE.
Thank you for sharing your work with us. I highly recommend these
files to everyone.
My best to you and yours, Happy New Year all year

Vince Marek started it all off in the PSR-Styles Group on July 18, 2001 (message #4856, for those who need to check) with this rather eloquent post:
"A week or two ago Dave sent me over 100 of his registrations for
which I am ever so thankful. This man has a great talent for taking
a voice and then varying all the different parameters such as
filters, equalizers, effects, etc and then appropriately mixing
several voices together to get the most beautiful sounds. I was able
to take his zip package and load it on my 9000 PRO on the first
pass. Smooth as silk.
Being new to the instrument (and this group), Dave's registrations
have helped me immensely. I have learned how to get in there and
tweak voices on my own. His sharing was generous and greatly
appreciated. For Dave and those like him who want to share their
creations and contribute to the education of others like me, this
group should so facilitate. One day I hope to do the same.
Heck, just appreciation for beautiful sounds is justification in
itself for such a file."

"Hi Dave... you... should now be aware that everything is OK. I am all loaded and have listened to many of the sounds and am gobsmacked. They are brilliant, you must have spent an eternity setting them all up. You have my admiration."

This thing just knocks me out -- I don't care if it doesn't belong on this page, I love it! I needed to make a recipe for Pizza Sauce, and the one given was TOO BIG, so I converted it by asking for a recipe 1/20th that size (or .05, the fraction I used)... and it worked flawlessly!
Cay you believe it? ANOTHER ONE, and it works just as well, only differently. I can see myself using both, so maybe you will also.

What is the MEGAEnhancer?
The MEGAEnhancer Computer application Software converts XG/GM song data (Standard MIDI File) to song data which can be played back via an Instrument or tone generator equipped with Mega Voices. By using MEGAEnhancer to convert the song data, you will benefit from more realistic-sounding guitar and bass voices.
