Animal World Record Concept Map / Web

An image of a frog catching and eating a fly

Imagine sitting in a school bus, going across a bridge, looking out the window, and seeing something longer than the bus with eyes as big as hubcaps and tentacles covered with suckers. Can you guess what real, yet very secretive animal you'd see?

Let's find out how amazing the animal kingdom can be. Today you are going to create a web, using the computer program Kidspiration, of an animal that holds a world record. This type of concept map is also known as a web, which will help you to organize your ideas. You will need to use linking words in between each concept (or symbol) to explain how they are related to each other.

Remember, when it's time to print, you must have a white background. If you will be presenting your web to the class, you can have a colored background, but you must change it back to white before you print.

Follow these steps:

  1. Find out which animal you are assigned
    • Look on your computer and find the computer number that is written on it. This will be your assigned number.
    • Next you will need to look on a table to see which animal corresponds to your assigned number. This will be your assigned animal.
    • Click here to find your assigned animal
  2. Open Kidspiration
  3. Choose "Picture" to begin a new web
  4. Change the label of "Main Idea" to your assigned animal
  5. You will find 8-9 facts about your assigned animal. Each fact will be a new category to add to your web.
  6. Find the answer to each category of the web by clicking on assigned animal in the table
  7. Add images of each category to the web. Don't just add words, but use the images from the webpage and from the clipart in Kidspiration. Remember to copy and paste.
  8. Put your name on your completed web.
  9. Save as "Animal Name Your Initials" in your folder on the TMS server. For example, I would name my web as "KoalaMH".
  10. Before printing make sure your background is white
