Welcome students. As your computer lab teacher, I, Ms. Hoff, am excited about returning to Tchefuncte Middle School this school year to work with all of you once again. When you come to the computer lab, you will either be taught by your regular teacher or you will be given a lesson by me. If taught by your regular teacher, I will be your teacher's assistant and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the software, etc. If taught by me, there are a few guidelines you should know, which are listed below.
|
Rules & Procedures:
- Come in quietly & take your seats
- Do not change the settings on the computer. If the settings on your computer look different than what you usually see in the lab, be sure to tell the teacher of the changes.
- Follow the instructions on the board. It may be a website you will need to go to or handouts may need to be passed out.
- Handouts for the current lesson will be found on top of each of the computers at the end of each row. The students sitting at each of these computers will take one and pass it down.
- Do not write on the handouts
- At the end of the lesson, pass your handouts to the first student in the row (on the right) and that student will stack them back on the computer
- Handouts for any previous lessons will be found in the shelves at the back of the room
- I will repeat instructions as needed
- Save often
- Raise your hands & wait to be called upon when answering questions
- Students can help other students if done with own work, but the teacher must see your finished work first.
- Do Not abuse the priviledge of using the computer lab. If found destroying school property (mouse pad, etc.), you can be banned from the computer lab.
- No student allowed in lab unsupervised
- If working in the lab without your class, use the computers in the front row.
- Save your work to the network server in your own folder. Make sure it is not saved to the computer you are working on. If it's saved to a folder called "My Documents" for example, it is saved on the computer you are sitting at (let's say it's computer #3) and not to the server. If computer #3 breaks, then you will not be able to get to your document and you will have to start all over again.
- If it's important, save your work in more than one place. Save it in your folder, on a floppy disk, and/or email it to yourself.
- Save often
- Sometimes you will need a template to begin your work. When using a template (I will tell you when you need one), you must SAVE IT IN YOUR OWN FOLDER and GIVE IT A NEW NAME.
- Some of the computer lab lessons will have "Student Assignments". Look on your computer & find the workstation number written on it (Lab #). This is your assigned number which will correspond with a topic you will be given. Click here to see an example.
- Save trees!! Before printing from Internet Explorer, "Print Preview" the web page to see how many pages will be printed (Click here for an example). If it's more than you need, you can choose to print which pages to print or you can print a "selection" of the page.
- Print only when given permission by your teacher
- Do not keep clicking on the print button. Each click will send your work to the printer. Print only once, then check to see if the printer printed your document. If you can't print, ask the teacher for help before trying to print again.
- When using Kidspiration, you can only print when you have a white background.
- When turning in assignments to me, place them in the bin in the front of the classroom. Make sure you include your name, grade, and regular teacher's name.
- Do a good job and your work will be posted outside the classroom for everyone to see your excellent work.
- Don't be afraid to ask for my help
- Save often
- Above all, be creative & have fun
