Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are based on the vet costs of each animal. We do NOT make any money over the actual costs. However, we may charge an extra portion on certain breeds. This *extra* amount goes into the PPA fund and is used only for pet related expenses such as food, care, vet bills, etc. We have found that some adopters seek out certain breeds just for the sake of having that breed, without regard to the actual pet. These types are only interested in *image*, so we may add extra on top of the vet fees to comprise the adoption fees to cut down on the nonserious inquiries. Each adoption fee is listed by the animal's name on our website. We accept Cash or Money Orders. Sorry we cannot accept personal checks or credit cards. We also give full refunds up to 7 days after the adoption. Please see our site for full information.
Who We Are
We are a private non-profit animal rescue/adoption operation located in Commerce, Texas. My husband Jonathan and I run Private Pet Adoptions from our home. Currently we have 18 acres at our disposal, but will be moving shortly. We are a one family team and therefore have limited space to rescue animals. Though we'd love to rescue each and every one we see in the shelter, we simply do not have room. Our available space is determined by how quickly we can find loving, adopting homes for our furbabies. Smaller is better, however, because each animal receives utmost love and attention day in and day out they are here with us! We also serve as an alternative to "dumping" animals in the country or roadsides. We'll work with the individuals who voluntarily surrender their animals over to us instead of a shelter. We are in startup, so space is limited and availability is not guaranteed. Please contact us for more information.
Adopting a friend
Adoption is easy! Visit our website located at http://www.cadwells.org and fill out the adoption application form. You may also print it off and mail it to us, or drop it off at time of scheduled pet visit!
Why we hold kittens until they are 12 weeks old
"Kittens want and need interaction with others of their own kind for healthy social development. A kittens learns a lot in the first several months of life from its mother and littermates. Separating a kitten from its mother is often a necessity in order for it to be adopted, but taking it away from its littermates and isolating it can delay the kitten's development emotionally, socially and sometimes physically. Kittens who are able to remain with one of their littermates or a similarly-aged companion, tend to be healthier and happier, and in the long run, better socialized pets than those who are isolated from others of their kind at an early age."
